Looking for Lovely: Collecting the Moments that Matter explores the ordinary people of the Bible to discover the beauty in each life.
This seven-session study for girls examines people of various professions-fishermen, gardeners, women, soldiers, and ultimately Jesus to find the lovely in everyday life. Every moment matters. Every individual matters. We can’t put life on pause to avoid the difficulties, but we can be people of influence in and through all circumstances. There are moments of suffering, perseverance, character building, and hope in every life.
In our everyday, normal lives, looking for lovely is discovering God and connecting with Him in the midst of the positive and negative circumstances we face. God asks that we trust His timing and lean in as He turns the soil in our lives to make everything beautiful in His time. In the end, it is not about outside circumstances but actually about our hearts.
Video Sessions
- Session 1: Introduction (6:39)—Annie introduces the study and shares that she wants you to be the kind of girl who says, I’m a finisher, because you’ve learned to “look for lovely” in your everyday life. She introduces Romans 5:3-5, which the study focuses on in the sessions to come.
- Session 2: Farmers (5:52)—When we rejoice in our sufferings, it builds perseverance. When we persevere, that builds our character, which brings us hope. We can “look for lovely” in the everyday world to remind us of Jesus. When we remember He’s with us, it makes everything a little easier.
- Session 3: Musicians (6:56)—There are times when we know change is coming, and times when we don’t. Daniel 2:20-21 says God is the One who changes times and seasons. Remembering this truth, we can love the season we’re in, asking ourselves, What do I appreciate about this season, and what do I want for what’s coming?
- Session 4: Fishing (6:51)—Sometimes moments are connected to places, and it can be easier to remember and connect with Jesus in a special place. In John 21:1-3, the disciples connected with Jesus at the Sea of Galilee. They found Jesus there, and He found them there, too. Annie asks us the question, “Are there places that help you connect with Jesus?”
- Session 5: Women of Influence (6:11)—In John 11, Jesus hurt with His friends; in John 2, Jesus celebrated with His friends. John 13:22-23,25 tells us that Jesus had a friendship where they leaned on each other. Jesus shows us what it’s like to be a friend. We also need people standing beside us, reminding us of God’s goodness and His faithfulness.
- Session 6: Jesus (6:37)—Sabbath has always been built into who we’re supposed to be because it’s what God did (Gen. 2:2-3). Annie discusses how we’re not just resting to recover from what’s happened—we’re also resting in expectation of what’s coming next. Psalm 46:10 tells us to “Be still, and know that I am God.” As we collect our “looking for lovely” moments to know that He is God, it’s important we find time to rest and be still.
- Session 7: Now What (6:06)—Annie shows us her “looking for lovely” jar, which is full of things that God has used to show Himself to her. Lamentations 3:19-25 emphasizes that it’s easy for us to remember the hard things, but God’s faithfulness is great. When we collect our “looking for lovely” moments, we’re reminded of His faithfulness, even when it’s difficult to forget the hard times.
