Download any one or more of these sessions for personal use or for times you can’t be at the group Bible study sessions.
Session 1: Imago Dei [17:26] The Bible is not silent on issues of race and ethnicity. From Genesis to Revelation the Bible affirmed the inherent goodness of all people because all people are created in God’s image. In this session, Dan Darling teaches about why every single person deserves dignity and honor simply because God created them in His image.
Session 2: God’s Heart for All People [12:29] One of the great travesties of our country’s history is the way that racism kept people apart. Not only did that degrade humans, it deeply grieved the heart of God. In this session, Walter Strickland teaches about how God feels and thinks about ethnicities around the world. Once we understand God’s heart for every nation, the Spirit can begin to develop the same heart in us.
Session 3: Breaking Down the Walls [18:13] One of the things that Christians engaging the culture today often wonder is whether the pursuit of diverse churches is a 21st-century fad. “Does it have any grounding in the Scriptures?” In this session, Trillia Newbell teaches from Ephesians 2 about how God has intentionally been building an ethnically diverse church from the very beginning.
Session 4: Pursuing Gospel Relationships [18:54] In order to truly pursue racial reconciliation, we must do more than talk about it. We need to pursue it in our own lives. In this session, Juan Sanchez teaches about what it looks like to pursue gospel relationships across ethnic lines and gives us practical handles for what this might look like in our own lives.
Session 5: Race and Culture [19:12] Christians almost universally agree racism is wrong, but there is a lot of disagreement about how deep racism runs, and whether it is thriving or dying in our culture. God has a lot to say about justice and corrupt systems in his Word. As His people, we need to listen to Him. In this session, Russell Moore teaches about how race intersects with our culture and church culture.
Session 6: Where Do We Go from Here [19:28] As we come to the end of this study, one of the most common questions after engaging with God on race and culture in our country is, “What can I do?” Action can feel overwhelming, and we feel like we can’t possibly make a real difference. In this last session, Trevor Atwood gives some helpful next steps. He’s going to help us think through “Where do we go from here?”
