Overview
Ordinary – Video Sessions (for individual viewing on your personal computer) featuring Tony Merida. All 6 of these video sessions are available to purchase as individual, downloadable sessions. This 6-session Bible study encourages participants to move into a life of mission and justice—speaking up for the voiceless, caring for the single mom, restoring the broken, bearing burdens, welcoming the functionally fatherless, and speaking the good news to people on a regular basis in order to change the world.
These video sessions are most effective when used with the Ordinary Bible study book. Download any one or more of these sessions for personal use or for times you can’t be at the group Bible study sessions.
Session 1
Everyday Justice (14:13)
In this video, author Tony Merida introduces the concept behind Ordinary. He unpacks the biblical foundations of justice and provides some practical examples from his own life. The primary point in this session is how ordinary, everyday missionality and activism can be accomplished without sensationalism. That is, you can be missional “as you go.”
Session 2
Neighbor Love (15:12)
This session of Ordinary features author Tony Merida addressing the biblical concept of neighborly love. Forgoing a lengthy explanation of who our neighbor actually is, Merida instead focuses on love—specifically how love applies to biblical justice. So how do we demonstrate love as it applies to loving our “neighbors”? This short video from the author explores how we might respond to this call to justice.
Session 3
Kingdom Hospitality (15:03)
One of the most effective and most accessible components of biblical justice is hospitality. Yet, in our busy lives we rarely carve time into our schedules for merely being hospitable. Despite our best intentions, too often we do not get around to inviting non-believers and even believers into our lives. It’s become a pandemic within the body of Christ. In this session of Ordinary by Tony Merida, the author gives us practical ways that kingdom people can welcome others into our lives and homes.
Session 4
Care for the Vulnerable (17:35)
There has always been a relatively hard line between the “haves” and the “have-nots.” This was true during Jesus’ earthly ministry and it’s just as true now. In the interim 2000 years it hasn’t changed. Today we have perhaps the greatest opportunity to step into the world of the vulnerable to provide spiritual, physical, and emotional support. In this session Tony Merida focuses on perhaps the most symptomatic aspect of the vulnerable today: the fatherless. In this fourth session of Ordinary you’ll see just how encompassing the blast zone of fatherlessness actually is and what the Bible has to say in response.
Session 5
Courageous Advocacy (14:11)
Session 5 of Ordinary continues exploring actions we can take on behalf of biblical justice in the everyday rhythms of life. In session 4 author Tony Merida addresses vulnerability within the context of fatherlessness. In this session Merida unpacks ways we demonstrate godly justice by speaking for the voiceless. Not unlike the fatherless, orphans and widows of our time are disenfranchised, isolated, and lonely. Brokenness like this extends beyond what meets the eye and into the very core of these individuals, framing entirely too much of who they are. In this session, Merida encourages us with the biblical charge of speaking for and championing the cause of the voiceless marginalized or our culture.
Session 6
God-Centered Humility (14:15)
God-centered humility and the release of the specific sort of pride that prevents us from hearing God through the clutter of consumption are crucial to living everyday missionality in service of biblical justice. In this final session of Ordinary, author and pastor Tony Merida shares with us how an ordinary Christian walked with his extraordinary God to do extraordinary things. Session 6 leaves individuals on the threshold of an entirely new approach to their faith, life, and justice—all accessible in the normal rhythm and walk of life.
