Jesus taught in Luke 6:44 that a tree is known by its fruit. As Christians, we should be known by the godly character we display. Paul described this kind of character in Galatians as the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. But these qualities are not something we can muster up or produce on our own. Christlikeness is not dependent on us working harder. Instead, the Holy Spirit cultivates these attributes in us as we abide in Jesus.
