Battling the Lies of Fear 
It’s easy to think of Nehemiah as a powerful figure and to aspire to his level of boldness. But what if the key to Nehemiah’s accomplishments wasn’t based on his innate boldness or supernatural strength, but in his fear of the Lord? As we journey through Nehemiah’s story, we will learn to trade the lies we believe for the truth of God, for it was out of Nehemiah’s fear of God that he was able to battle his biggest fears. When our fear feels too big for us to overcome, we will find the fear of God becomes our greatest tool against every other fear.  

In this six-session Bible study by Kate Downing, teen girls will walk chapter by chapter through the book of Nehemiah to discover the truth about God that overcomes fear. 

Video Sessions

• Session 1: Fighting with the Fear of God (8:24)— Kate Downing introduces herself and outlines the next six weeks of study through the book of Nehemiah. She begins by defining the fear of God and continues to provide examples found in Scripture and in life.
• Session 2: Fighting the Fear of Hopelessness (10:02)— Kate discusses overcoming the fear of hopelessness through the fear of God. Reflecting on Nehemiah 1:1-11, we see how Nehemiah turns to the fear of God in order to overcome hopelessness in a seemingly bleak situation.
• Session 3: Fighting the Fear of the Unknown (13:32)— Continuing into Nehemiah 2, Kate examines how Nehemiah is able to overcome the fear of the unknown through the fear of God. Nehemiah’s prayers are answered, but he also faces pending threats. However, he knows he can depend on the Lord of all to act as his guide.
• Session 4: Fighting the Fear of Loneliness (10:13)— Jumping back into the book of Nehemiah, Kate discusses chapters 3-4 to illustrate fighting the fear of loneliness. Nehemiah is facing many challenges as the walls are being built in Jerusalem.
• Session 5: Fighting the Fear of Scarcity (11:58)— Kate continues walking through the book of Nehemiah, and in chapter 5, she illustrates how Nehemiah is able to fight the fear of scarcity. In scarcity, people are tempted to turn to compromise or greed, but Nehemiah shows us how we can combat scarcity with the fear of God.
• Session 6: Fighting the Fear of Man (11:31)— In this final session, Kate digs into Nehemiah 6, emphasizing the importance of fearing God over man. As Nehemiah faces opposition while rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, he remains steadfast in his commitment to God’s work.
