Sola gratia (grace alone)
Sola fide (faith alone)
Solus Christus (Christ alone)
Soli Deo gloria (glory to God alone)
These video sessions are most effective when used with the Echoes of the Reformation Bible study book. Rent these sessions as a bundle for personal use or for times when you can't be at the group Bible study sessions.
This video will expire two weeks after the date of purchase.
Session 1
Why the Reformation Matters (22:51)
In this video theologians Kevin DeYoung, Albert Mohler, and Trevin Wax discuss why, after five hundred years, it’s still important for Christians to examine the core truths of the Reformation. They overview the five alone affirmations of the Reformation that accurately describe our faith today: Scripture alone, grace alone, faith alone, Christ alone, and glory to God alone.
Session 2
Scripture Alone (16:01)
Martin Luther and the Reformers argued that the papacy isn’t a conduit of divine revelation; Scripture alone is. In this video theologians Kevin DeYoung, Albert Mohler, and Trevin Wax emphasize that the Bible is the final authority for believers. Scripture is God speaking to us, living and active, and therefore has the last word in our lives.
Session 3
Grace Alone (17:01)
In this video theologians Kevin DeYoung, Albert Mohler, and Trevin Wax highlight the Reformers’ insistence that because God is thoroughly holy and righteous, we can never merit His favor through our own efforts. We are saved from sin only by God’s grace and mercy. Indeed, grace can be defined as “God’s unmerited favor.” The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross made it possible for His righteousness to be credited to those who believe in Him.
Session 4
Faith Alone (18:30)
At the heart of the Reformation was a desire to have assurance that we have right standing with God. In this video theologians Kevin DeYoung, Albert Mohler, and Trevin Wax state that the Reformation teaching of justification by faith alone gives Christians assurance that we are saved. Faith is the only instrument by which someone can receive all of Christ’s benefits.
Session 5
Christ Alone (19:13)
Martin Luther and the Reformers taught that Christ accomplished all that was necessary for our salvation. In this video theologians Kevin DeYoung, Albert Mohler, and Trevin Wax argue that Christianity alone explains our sin problem and God’s plan to provide all that is necessary for us to be redeemed through Jesus Christ. This is why people must place their faith and hope in Christ and must be exclusively devoted to Him above all else.
Session 6
Glory to God Alone (17:25)
In this video theologians Kevin DeYoung, Albert Mohler, and Trevin Wax point out that Luther didn’t preach a theology that brought glory to the sinner or to the church but a theology that brought glory to God alone. God’s glory assures believers that they will be eternally saved and that they are safe and secure in God’s promises and power. God alone is worthy of glory, and our greatest joy will be to glorify Him forever.
