Join Marian Jordan Ellis for this 7-session Bible study that explores the life and letters of Peter, a disciple who left everything to follow Jesus. Peter's life and apostolic ministry will model for us how to anchor our lives to Jesus, while the letters of 1 and 2 Peter will reveal an enduring hope that enables us to withstand the storms of life, and even thrive in the midst of them. You’ll be challenged to hold fast to Him as you discover that, in Christ, you have everything you need to live victoriously and joyfully.
Video Sessions:
- Session 1: The Call (37:46)—Marian opens the study of Anchored by introducing us to the apostle Peter. She’ll show that Peter wasn’t a perfect saint, but an imperfect man that God used powerfully to accomplish His purpose. She’ll provide context for the study by walking us through three callings Jesus gave Peter that set the course for Peter’s ministry and letters.
- Session 2: The Questions(38:37)—In the Session 2 video teaching, Marian will point out that questions were a big part of the interaction between Jesus and the disciples. She’ll examine three of those questions that give us insight into Jesus’s identity and Peter’s understanding of the Messiah he followed and later proclaimed.
- Session 3: Teachable Moments (35:32)—Marian points out early in the Session 3 video teaching the importance of teachable moments. She will show how Peter’s bold and brash statements and honest questions provided teachable moments for Peter and us to better understand Jesus’s mission and message and our great inheritance in Him.
- Session 4: The Passover (38:36)—In Session 4, Marian dives deep into the final Passover meal Jesus shared with His disciples. She’ll point out that what Peter experienced before, during, and after the meal showed the character and purpose of Jesus and would shape what Peter later lived out and proclaimed in his writing.
- Session 5: The Grace of God (38:25)—The teaching video for Session 5 is all about grace. Marian walks us through Peter’s denial and restoration by Jesus to show that none of us are beyond God’s grace. She reminds us that we are not only saved by grace, but we are kept by grace. And our response to the great grace we’ve received is to live for our Redeemer.
- Session 6: The Church is Born (35:47)—In the Session 6 video teaching, Marian will focus on Acts 1, where the following three promises were given to Christ’s followers: Holy Spirit power, certainty of being gospel witnesses, and the return of Christ. She’ll unpack how those promises shaped Peter’s life, preaching, ministry, and writing, and how they should shape how we live today.
- Session 7: The Great Commission (35:54)—The final teaching session will focus on three ways God opened the door for Peter to fulfill the great commission. Marian wills show us how God opened the door of the gospel to the Gentiles, how He opened literal prison doors for Peter, and how He opened doors for Peter to minister throughout the Roman Empire. We’ll be challenged to walk through the doors God opens for us to be on mission for Him.
