Isaiah 9:1-7

There are no contracts or notaries public in Heaven. We spend a lot of money and spill a lot of ink ensuring that people will keep their promises, but there’s no need to ensure that God will keep His promises.

In this passage, Isaiah highlights the promises God has made that are ultimately fulfilled in Christ’s coming.

  • God keeps His promises of redemption as the light of Christ shines in a dark world (vv. 1-2).

  • Christmas is a time of joy and through Christ God keeps His promise of bringing joy to His people (vv. 3-4).

  • Justice can often seem beyond our reach in this world, but God fulfills His promise of just rule through Christ as well (vv. 5-7).

Christmas teaches us that God keeps His promises because God has faithfully worked among His people from Isaiah’s prophecy to the coming of Christ all the way to today.
