True Love Waits Inspirations from Married Couples

Purity Ranks as High Priority in Relationship

When high school student Daniel Doss signed a pledge to abstain from sex until he married, little did he know his future wife, Emily, had already signed an identical pledge when she had been in seventh grade. Since they lived in different Tennessee towns, neither knew the other existed. Today, they're happily married and grateful to God for allowing them to meet, fall in love, and stay true to their pledges.

Daniel and Emily both were very dedicated to remaining pure for their future spouse. Emily continually pledged purity to her future spouse by writing letters in several journals from the seventh grade until she and Daniel married last May. The couple met at the Baptist Student Union at the University of Tennessee-Martin when he was 19, and she, 18. They fell deeply in love. When they became engaged, Emily began addressing her letters directly to Daniel. On their wedding day, she gave him the journals as a wedding gift.

"I cannot express how important it was to me that purity remain the number one priority in our relationship," says Daniel. "It was difficult at times, but we both knew we had made a commitment to God, and we made sure we kept it."

Waiting for Each Other Described as 'Wonderful' and 'Beautiful'

I made the True Love Waits commitment as a junior in high school and can thankfully say that the Lord helped me to keep my commitment. I am now 24, and just two months ago I married the love of my life. He made the same commitment when he was a sophomore in high school.

I cannot express how wonderful and how beautiful it was to know that each of us waited on the Lord and on each other until our marriage to give our virginity away. My husband was such an encouragement to me throughout our three-year relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend. It was so important to us back then that we each had someone who loved us enough not to push for sex. The bond that we share is indescribable.

I just want to encourage everyone, the young teens, the young adults, and even those older adults who are single to wait--it is possible, and it is so worth it. At our wedding, we exchanged our TLW rings and vows, and that night, my husband thanked me for the most precious gift I could ever give him. With the Lord Jesus, all things are possible. He gives us the strength to make the right choices. You are worth waiting for.
