I want to share my gratitude and enthusiasm for True Love Waits. As our church’s Associate Pastor of Discipleship and Outreach, I have the honor and privilege of leading Youth Discipleship on Wednesday nights. During the months of April and May, twenty-five (25) young men and women (junior and senior high) gathered for six (6) consecutive weeks to study God’s will regarding sexual purity. Twenty-two (22) attended five of the six sessions, signed the True Love Waits commitment, and participated in our True Love Waits Commitment Ceremony.

During our ceremony, our young people, supported by their parents, publicly expressed:

Their dedication to God’s will for sexual purity.
Their accountability to our church and their peers.
Their reliance on consistent, continuing prayer support from our church family.

The ceremony concluded with our parents presenting their sons and daughters with symbols of their commitment to a lifetime of sexual purity.

After our ceremony, our Senior Pastor presented a message to our congregation from 2 Corinthians 6:12-20. He offered the following during his message:

At the age of 39, having grown up since birth a preacher’s kid, I’ve never witnessed a ceremony like the one we just experienced. You can be sure that True Love Waits will become an annual event in the life of Broadway Baptist Church.

Following our ceremony, many parents and church members expressed their gratitude for the evening. Several expressed their regret that something similar was not presented to them during their own teen years.

Many thanks to the staff of True Love Waits for their continuing allegiance to God’s unchanging standards.
