This support-group study offers practical, biblically based guidance to lead adults to identify, understand, and come to terms with the feelings and problems of growing up in a dysfunctional family. This course will help adults who grew up in a home in which one of the family members had emotional needs so strong that they disrupted the development of healthy relationships. This is yet another example of christians having no idea what the Bible does and does not say. If we took more time to show people how to read their Bible and less time fighting against our inner child we would all be able to see past ourselves to a LOST AND DYING WORLD!

This book has helped me to identify sources of and work through destructive behavior patterns I have struggled with for years. No, it is not a replacement for scripture or a healthy, obedient relationship with Christ, but as a supplement to Bible study and an aide for enhancing self-awareness, it has helped me grow in my relationship with God. God is truly using this as a tool to help me make peace with difficult aspects of my past.

I have used this with several individuals from severly disfunctional family backgrounds -- abuse, abandonment, compulsive/addictive behaviors, and neglect -- and have found it to be outstanding. I warn you, however; some who embark on the steps within, may run from them and never find freedom. Satan will put obstacles in the path of those who start this journey, and all hell can break loose in the lives of those who begin working on its contents with loving and godly facilitators, but there is peace after coming through introspective valleys.

I have been in counseling for the last few months. Recently, I visited my pastor about my counseling experience and wanted to receive a biblical perspective. He gave me a copy of the book for me to read. I shared it with my counselor and she ordered herself and a client a copy. What a tremedous blessing this book has been for me as well as others.

Our church used this book to assist those of us who came from a dysfunctional childhood. I have recommended it to several friends. It guides you to look at the past and see it rationally instead of with your old attitudes and fears. Tim Sledge's poignant stories brought back many of my own memories, fears and shames, and let me face them from an adult perspective. This book is simply wonderful!

I liked the way it helped me to deal with who I am and why in a way that Christ would approve of!
I dislike how hard it is to find this book, and that it seems the only ones who will admitt they need a support group are women.

Being able to dissect incidents in my life with an adult perspective allowed me to forgive others, helped me to heal family relationships, and freed me to walk in peace in my relationship with the Lord. No more shame, no more carrying more than my share of guilt. Praise the Lord for this insightful study for those who are willing to walk through the valley to the other side.

The book is beginner level work on taking responsibility for yourself no matter what happened in your past. Also, the book is hard to find because Time Sledge isn''t even a minister anymore.
