11/21/2001 8:39:24 AM: An outstanding practical guide for praying.
I liked the fact that it called me to focus on God's priorites and not my own.

11/21/2001 1:33:03 PM: Excellent
The book, The Prayer of Jesus, is refreshing and timely. Dr. Hemphill rightly directs the reader to the "Master's Model Prayer" as a guide for renewal by individuals and the Church. A praying lifestyle that acknowledges Holy God as Heavenly Father, will find an appropriate context with the body of believers, the Church, where praying corporately for temporal and kingdom issues are needed. The author's guidelines for the Church to accomplish a renewed prayer-life will be beneficial to the reader.

11/22/2001 7:50:27 AM: This is the best book on prayer I have ever read.
"The Prayer of Jesus" changed my life and deepened my walk with God, giving me an entirely new and different understanding of who God is and what He wants to do in this world and through His followers. I heartily recommend it to everyone--I'm giving lots of copies to friends and family.

11/27/2001 11:36:28 AM: Best book on the Lord's Prayer
The most practical book I've read on the Prayer of Jesus. Illustratons were right on the mark. This will change your prayer life.

11/27/2001 1:20:27 PM: A great guide for the Christian prayer life
THE PRAYER OF JESUS is a great reminder for communicating with the Creator. Readers will be challenged in their prayers, encouraged in their relationship with God, and blessed through His Spirit.

THE PRAYER OF JESUS is a great reminder for communicating with the Creator. Readers will be challenged in their prayers, encouraged in their relationship with God, and blessed through His Spirit.

11/28/2001 8:35:34 AM: Excellent overview of the model prayer of Jesus
It was refreshing to read new insights to an old, familiar prayer passage with related scriptures. The illustrations were very real and helped to illuminate the passage. It is concise and very readable.

11/28/2001 2:04:34 PM: Useful and practical exposition of the model prayer.
The Prayer of Jesus is the most useful and practical exposition of the model prayer that I have ever read. Pithy and engaging, Hemphill's book provides common-sense insights that should have occurred to all of us before, but didn't. I needed this book. Churches need to apply the suggestions in the Epilogue.

11/28/2001 2:09:18 PM: Designed to assist the reader to
With Hemphill's stated premise, "having our requests granted is not the primary goal of prayer . . . prayer is not about answers. Prayer is about rewards," this is a book, whose timing is perfect as a balance to The Prayer of Jabez. While Jabez is a good example of one who communicated with the Father boldly and received his request, Jesus is an example of one who communicated with the Father intimately and received His reward.

11/28/2001 2:11:45 PM: Splendid little book.
What a splendid little book you have given us in The Prayer of Jesus. What an excellent add-on to include your staccato Names of God book.

11/28/2001 2:25:43 PM: Certainly needed.
Though you may not have written this book to counter that other best-selling "prayer," it is certainly needed and I hope many will read it.

11/28/2001 4:42:54 PM: This is a rare book.
This is a rare book . . . READ AND REVISIT AGAIN AND AGAIN . . . START TO FINISH. The promise and power of this writing is certain to lead you to a better life.

11/29/2001 10:04:27 AM: Liberating
This book is the first book I have read that helps the Christian get away from a guilt driven prayer life to a relational prayer life. Ken Hemphill is a hero of mine. The Lord has allowed him to write a small book that's concerned with really helping people learn how to pray. Isn't that what Jesus disciples wanted? To learn how to pray? This read will benefit anyone looking to get a spiritual breakthrough in his or her prayer life.

11/30/2001 12:29:54 PM: Excellent insight
Dr. Hemphill writes with the direct practical focus of a pastor "equipping the saints for works of service." This book gives us a refreshing alternative to the "Me-ism" rampant in our society and, more sadly, in our churches. I really enjoyed Bruce Wilkinson's "The Prayer of Jabez," but Hemphill's "The Prayer of Jesus" drives to the heart of the Christian faith.

12/11/2001 12:03:56 PM: awesome; very insightful and helps develop meaningful relationship with Christ
It was very clarifying in how to develop meaningful prayer and how prayer can build the relationship with Christ.

12/11/2001 12:57:32 PM: God is working in my prayer life.
I have read The Prayer of Jesus and am working through it again. God is working in my prayer life through it.

12/11/2001 1:14:30 PM: Your book is a true blessing.
Your book is a true blessing this holiday season. I have been touched by it and I know that others will be too.

12/11/2001 1:26:50 PM: Genuinely fresh and important insights into prayer.
After reading this important book, I find myself looking forward to my morning prayer more focused on God's "presence" than His "presents." I am guessing this fresh perspective will shape my prayer life the rest of the journey. I am very thankful for Ken Hemphill's careful attention to the way Jesus prayed.

2/22/2002 11:08:35 AM: This book 'works ... it connects ... it will literally change your life.
As a long-time admirer of Ken Hemphill, I eagerly await each new book. He is a unique gift to the Body of Christ, combining the wealth of experience in the local church with astute scholarship and an engaging writing style. Reading The Prayer of Jesus has stirred me to want to pray more like Jesus. Dr. Hemphill's very readable style draws in anyone regardless of maturity level and takes us right into the presence of the Heavenly Father. Just like the Lord's Prayer, this book, "works ... it connects ... it will literally change your life."
11/21/2001 8:36:18 AM: A guide to individual and small group praying.
I noticed that most people pray "me" and "mine" prayers. Jesus, on the other hand, prayed "our" and "thine" prayers. His focus was on the Kingdom of God and the needs of others. The "our Father" address assures us that prayer is personal communication with a Father who intimately knows our needs and desires to meet them so that we might fulfill our commitments to Him. The first three "thy" statements are commitments on our part. They are followed by three petitions that will provide everything necessary for us to fulfill our commitments to God's name, His Kingdom, and His will. Kingdom focused praying eliminates anxiety becasue it connects us to God's purposes in our daily lives. It is not insignificant that in the immediate context Jesus repeats the phrase "do not be anxious" five times. The things that cause anxiety (food, rent, clothing, our body, and tommorrow tend to dominate our prayer time. Yet Jesus taught us that we could escape our anxiety-riddled lifestyle if we would focus on God's Kingdom. "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you" (Matt. 6:33).
