Hellams joined LifeWay’s executive management team in 2006 after serving nearly nine years as the executive assistant to the president at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (SBTS) in Louisville, Ky.

Hellams oversees a division that provides LifeWay’s news and information services, directs LifeWay events, and builds good working relationships with other SBC entities, Baptist state conventions, civic, community and evangelical organizations. He also serves as an extension of the office of the president, overseeing the essential functions of the executive management team, serving as liaison to the board of trustees, and carrying out numerous other representative roles.

A graduate of Erskine College in Due West, S.C., Hellams holds an M.A. and M.Div. in church and denominational administration from SBTS, as well as a Doctor of Ministry in leadership and church consultation, also from Southern Seminary.

Hellams has served in various roles within local churches throughout Kentucky and South Carolina, including stints as a minister of music, youth director and executive pastor.

He and his wife, Tena Ellen, have one son and one daughter.
