Learn more about Let's Worship MagazineWhy don't we "christen" or "baptize" babies?
Historically, Baptists do not observe "christening" or "baptism" of infants. Robert Wagoner explains in an article in Let's Worship Magazine that it is because "baptism took place in the New Testament only for those who had consciously chosen to follow Christ and had been converted."

Why do we do parent-child or baby dedications?
Wagoner also says in the same article that "there is a need today, however, for a time of dedication of newborn babies and their parents to the Lord. This dedication would provide a constant reminder to the congregation of our commitment to children. It would also be a reminder to all parents of their biblical responsibility to raise their children in the admonition of the Lord. The timing of this rite could occur either at the birth of the child or on a specific calendar date such as given for sanctity of life Sunday." (Let's Worship Magazine, Summer, 1999)
