Preschoolers love getting mail that is just for them. Keeping in touch with your preschoolers through the mail lets the preschooler and the parents know how much you care.
Why?
The benefits of writing notes reach far beyond just making a child happy to receive mail. Notes are a great way to inform families about your class. Notes also serve to strengthen relationships with both children and parents. Today’s young families are among the busiest people anywhere; they want information that is quick and relevant. A short note written to a child can help parents participate in the learning that takes place in your classroom each week.
When?
The obvious occasions for writing notes are absences, illnesses, holidays, and birthdays. However, you have many other opportunities to send a card to a child. Consider sending notes to children who have just become big brothers or sisters. You might also send a note to a child who has lost his first tooth or when he goes on a trip. Preschoolers will be thrilled if you remember special events in their lives with a note. But even everyday events offer opportunities to let them know you care.
How?
Worried that you will not know what to write? Keep your notes short, simple, and personal. Try a few of the following suggestions:

It really does not matter why, when, or how you write notes to preschoolers. It only matters that you do. So get out the cards and get started.
