Writing For LifeWay
LifeWay Christian Resources was originally created as the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1891. As a denominational publisher, LifeWay provides resources for use in Southern Baptist churches and for the general public. LifeWay publications include curriculum study materials, ministry periodicals, personal growth materials, leisure-reading periodicals, multimedia and Internet resources, and books.
Curriculum Study Materials and Personal Growth Materials
The LifeWay Church Resources Division publishes study materials for use in Sunday School, worship, discipleship, and leadership ministries in local churches. A large number of resources are available for adults, students, children, and preschoolers and for their leaders. Some materials also are provided in Spanish, Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese.
All curriculum writing in the LifeWay Church Resources Division is done by assignment. Curriculum writers generally are active members of Southern Baptist churches, and in most cases they also are actively involved in the kind of study group for which they write. Those interested in being considered for a curriculum assignment should write the editor of the periodical for which they desire to write. In most cases, the prospective writer will be contacted and asked to prepare a sample lesson.

Ministry Periodicals
Many of LifeWay's periodicals support activities and ministries in Southern Baptist churches by providing help for church leaders in non-study activities. Examples are: Church Musician Today, The Deacon, Let's Worship, and Special Education Today.
Most writing is done by assignment. Occasionally, however, an editor of one of these periodicals publishes a well-written freelance article that supports the periodical's purpose and meets the needs of the target group. Some ministry periodicals rely more heavily on freelance articles. Persons interested in writing for ministry periodicals should send queries or manuscripts to the editor of the periodical for which they desire to write.
Devotional, Christian Living, and Life Enrichment Resources
Open Windows (for adults), Quietud (Spanish devotional guide), Journey (for women), Stand Firm (for men), and Bible Express (for children) provide Bible reading and devotional features. More (for younger children), Adventure (for older children), and essential connection (for youth) combine devotional and life enrichment materials in support of Bible study experiences. Most of the writing is done by assignment. Persons interested in writing for one of these periodicals should contact the editor of the periodical to request writers guidelines.
LifeWay Church Resources has magazines that are for home reading by individuals. These magazines include: Living with Teenagers, Mature Living, and ParentLife. Writing for most of these magazines is done by assignment. Some freelance articles are accepted, but generally editors receive many more articles than they can publish. The articles most likely to be accepted are:
- Written in a clear, readable style
- Addressed to the interests and needs of the target group of the magazine, and
- Supportive of the Christian way of life.
If you are interested in submitting work to these titles, start by requesting writers guidelines from the editor of the periodical(s) for which you desire to write. Send requests for guidelines to:
