Space and Equipment: Equipment and Furnishings

Equipment is another factor that affects the climate or setting for Bible study. The type of equipment and furnishings needed will differ according to the age group being taught. Few churches are able to provide everything. Provide what you are able at the time. One annual goal may be to make improvements in providing equipment and furnishings for classrooms.

¹ Recommended chair sizes for children:

Grades 1 & 2: 12-13 inches
Grades 3 & 4: 14-15 inches
Grades 5 & 6: 16-17 inches

² Standard chairs 18 inches above the floor.
³ Tabletops for children should be 10 inches above chair seats.
⁴ 36 x 45 inches min. for hanging boards, freestanding and movable of comparable size or larger are preferred.
⁵ Folding chairs for youth should be no more than 28 inches high.
⁶ 14-19 inches deep, 42-46 inches high, and 3-4 feet long, with shelves 12-14 inches apart.
⁷ Bookracks should be 42-46 inches high and 30-42 inches long.
⁸ Tackboards should be 24-30 inches in height and 6-10 feet in length, with the bottom edge 24-30 inches above the floor.
⁹ Picture rails should be about 30 inches above the floor on the front wall and 12 feet long.
