Andrew Peterson has always been able to communicate the Gospel in the vernacular. But with “Resurrection Letters, Vol. II” he makes the Good News indelibly crisp, remarkably clear, and undeniably appealing.

Founded on a firm, triple-thick foundation of impeccable songcrafting, heart-wrenching vocals, and flawless production courtesy of long-time collaborators Ben Shive and Andy Gullahorn, Andrew has built a project of gold, silver, and precious stones that will stand up to any trial by fire.

The common thread that ties the 11 songs of this project together is “Resurrection.” Each song explores some facet, attribute, or observation of history’s most important event. “Hosanna” cries out praises while contemplating the destruction of the temple that will be raised again in three days. “All You’ll Ever Need” compares the blood of Christ to the oil in the widow’s jar that would not run out until it accomplished all that was required. The gorgeous piano ballad “Invisible God” extols the attributes God made evident by the sacrifice of the Good Lamb.

Andrew is a storyteller at heart. Some of his greatest songs, such as “The Queen of Iowa,” “Little Boy Heart Alive,” “High Noon” and “Loose Change,” require multiple listenings to mine the richness of his words. “Resurrection Letters, Vol II” is no exception. “Don’t Give Up On Me” sounds like a straight-forward plea for mercy, but there is more underneath if you just spend the time to ponder it. The gently rocking “Rocket” tells more between the lines than meets the ear as well. The list goes on and on.

I didn’t think it was possible for Andrew to top his stunning independent release, “The Far Country.” Just goes to show how wrong a guy can be. “Resurrection Letters, Vol. II” may just be Andrew’s Magnus Opus.
