Steven D. Newton, AIA

Steve joined Church Architecture in 1990 and serves as an architect with major responsibilities for project conceptualization and design.
Before coming to Church Architecture, Steve was principal at Cornerstone Architects, Inc. in Nashville where he designed several church projects. He also served as project architect at Earl Swensson Associates, Inc. Nashville, one of the state's leading firms. While at Swensson, Steve was project architect for the Southern Baptist Convention headquarters building in Nashville. Steve began his career as an architectural intern in an Oregon architectural firm.
A native of Tennessee, Steve received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Tennessee. He has served as director of the Nashville/Middle Tennessee chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 1989. As an active mission volunteer, he has participated in overseas volunteer mission building projects and served as president of the Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity in 1989 and 1990.
Steve contributed to Planning and Building Church Facilities, published by Broadman Press in 1991, and wrote Baptist Church Facilities: The Architect's Guide in 1992. He has led numerous seminars, workshops, and conferences for church leaders and architects, and has consulted with hundreds of churches across the country.
