Leadership and Skills

The Leadership and Skill Development plans are designed to assist churches in training leaders in the various ministries. The plans are organized by types of leaders. For example, if you are a youth Discipleship leader, click on Youth Leaders. If you teach in a child-care center, click on Preschool Leaders.

With the Leadership and Skill Development plans, credit is given for the course not the resource. Resource options are listed with each course. For resource information, click on the resource title. It will link you to the information you need for finding the resource. When you complete all courses on a plan, you will receive the certificate. It will be sent to your church office for your pastor to sign it and present it to you. If your church is not a Southern Baptist church, the certificate will be sent directly to your home.

The same course titles are used for leaders related to a specific audience. For example, click on Preschool Leaders. On the Preschool Leadership Plan you will find four courses. Under each course, you will find the resources organized by ministry area. For example, the first course is The Administration of Preschool Ministries. One of the resources for Sunday School preschool teachers is Preschool Sunday School for a New Century. One of the resources for Discipleship preschool teachers is Transformational Discipleship: Your Church Helping People Be Like Jesus. Select your ministry area then select one of the resource options for each course. You are welcome to work on more than one ministry area.

This approach gives you a training curriculum for all of the teachers of the same age-group. A few courses have the same resource for all ministry areas. Most courses, however, are resourced by specific ministry-related products and events.

You may want to require the teachers and leaders in your church to serve as an apprentice before making a course credit request. This hands-on experience with a seasoned teacher or leader enhances the training opportunities for new teachers and leaders. Although this suggestion is not a Christian Growth Study Plan requirement, it is encouraged.
