Teen Stress Busters
While the teenage years may seem carefree to you, stress is very real for most teenagers. The pressures of getting good grades, being accepted to college, excelling in sports, managing a social life, and keeping a part-time job all compound as your teen is growing and maturing. Teens who don’t learn to manage stress properly often turn to harmful behaviors such as drinking alcohol or taking drugs.
Use the following healthy practices to teach your teen proper stress management habits that will benefit him throughout his life:
- Have a daily prayer and Bible study time.
- Get plenty of sleep regularly.
- Say “no” to extra obligations.
- Avoid making major life changes during potentially stressful periods.
- Eat a healthy diet. Focus on foods low in sugar and fat, but high in fiber.
- Exercise for 20-30 minutes most days of the week.
- Take time off from work and school activities to be with family and friends.
