Details Regarding the 2009 Christian Writers Contest and Manuscript Critiques
You must be registered for the entire conference in order to compete in the contest and/or to have your manuscript critiqued.
CRITIQUES
BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS CHRISTIAN WRITERS CONFERENCE MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUES - $30 each EMAILS ONLY except when otherwise noted – Please place this in the subject line: BRMCWC CRITIQUE ENTRY. You will receive a written one-page critique or comments written on your pages. A 15-minute private appointment will be arranged with your critiquer. Deadline for entries is noted by the person's name below. Look carefully at the list of names and see if there is still time for your manuscript critique to be emailed to one of our faculty. Include a cover sheet with your name, email address, title and category. Also include your name, title, and page number on each page.
REVIEWERS have a limit of entries they will critique. When they reach their limit of entries, their names will be removed from this list. You may submit in many categories, but only one entry per category.
PLEASE BRING A COPY OF YOUR MATERIAL TO THE CONFERENCE. (Guidelines & rules are same as for contest)
CRITIQUE FEE is $30 for each entry. Mail checks, payable to your critiquer, at an address to be given to you after you have emailed your material to the critiquer. Include your name, title of entry, email address with your check.

BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS CHRISTIAN WRITERS CONFERENCE CONTEST for UNPUBLISHED WRITERS (not published in any category) - $15 each When emailing your CONTEST ENTRY, please place in the subject line: BRMCWC CONTEST ENTRY and email to alton@altongansky.com. The contest is entirely separate from the critique service. You may enter a copy of the same manuscript for critique. Only contest entries are to be emailed to Alton Gansky, along with your $15 check payable to "Alton Gansky" with “BRMCWC contest” in the “for” line. Send check to Alton Gansky, 9983 Rose Drive, Oak Hills, CA 92344-0220.
CONTEST GUIDELINES & RULES: If you have been paid for your writing in any publication you are ineligible for this contest. You may enter in more than one category, but we accept only one entry per category. Deadline for entries is March 30, 2009. Submit a cover page labeled BRMCWC CONTEST ENTRY and include your name, address, category and title of entry. Do not put your name on pages of the manuscript since these will be emailed anonymously to judges. CATEGORIES(for critiques and contest)
1. Articles (non-fiction, true events or experiences) – approx. 1000-3000 words
2. Devotionals (limit of three - no longer than two pages each, double spaced)
3. Church Dramas – Plays/Skits – Submit a two-line synopsis (stating theme and focus of script, and entire script (no screenplays or teleplays)
4. Non-fiction books (true life stories, inspirational guidelines, motivational, encouragement, to-do, etc.) – Submit two-three page outline and first 30 pages – may include introduction – double-space all pages (more than 30 pages will not be read)
5. Novellas (fiction stories ranging from 20,000-30,000 words) – Submit two-three page synopsis and first pages, not to exceed 20 pages – double-space all pages (more than 20 pages will not be read)
6. Novels (fiction stories ranging from 45,000 – approx. 75,0000 words) – Submit two-three page synopsis and first pages, not to exceed 40 pages (if prologue submitted, it’s part of the 40 pages) – double-space all pages (more than 40 pages will not be read)
7. Poetry (three poems or three pages is one entry)
8. Short Stories (fiction stories – truth enveloped in an imaginative story such as parables Jesus told) – approx. 1000-3000 words
9. Bible Studies – Submit outline and first 30 pages, double-spaced
10. Stories and Books for children
BLUE RIDGE offers First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention Certificates. All First Place winning entries in each category will be judged for the AWARD OF EXCELLENCE. The highest award winner will receive a trophy plus $200 scholarship toward the 2010 BRMCWC May conference or the October 2010 Advanced Retreat.
CRITIQUES WILL NOT BE GIVEN ON CONTEST ENTRIES UNLESS SUBMITTED SEPARATELY FOR CRITIQUE.
