Live Worthy of the Sacrifice
And whoever doesn't take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. Matthew 10:38 (HCSB)
Living Worthy of the Sacrifice is a challenge that in truth cannot be accomplished, but must always be something for which we strive. There is no way to earn the sacrifice of a life for yours – a sacrifice of that magnitude is a gift that cannot be repaid or earned..
As Americans we enjoy the freedom that is the result of so many that have given their very lives to protect. Even today, men and women are giving their lives so that we can continue to live free. In the movie, Saving Private Ryan, we saw Captain John Miller tell a young Private James Ryan to “earn this” with his last breath. The moving scenes of a senior James Ryan decades later visiting the grave of Captain Miller with tears in his eyes asking his wife to tell him that he was a good man remind us that no matter how good Ryan had been, there was nothing that he could have really done to earn that sacrifice. It was a gift and the best Ryan could do was be a good man and remember every day of his life the price that was paid for him..
As Christians we are made clean by the blood of Jesus on the cross. There is no way we can earn that gift. Like Ryan, all we can do is live a life that shows we understand the high price that has been paid for us. We must live our lives in a way that is pleasing to God. We should ask ourselves:
Are we bearing fruit?
Are we growing in Christ?
Are we finding our strength in Christ?
Is our joy found in Christ?
Are we thankful for the sacrifice?
Each and every day, we should ask ourselves if we have done our very best to earn what has been done for us – as Americans and as Christians. Our prayer should be, “Lord, help me to do my best to live every day in a manner worthy of the sacrifice that you made for me.”
Join Christian motorcyclists from all over the country on Memorial Day as we honor the ultimate sacrifice that so many have made to ensure our precious freedom. That freedom guarantees our right to worship Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
