But, I liked the idea. I may not know what she looks like, where she lives or how many attended Sunday School at her church last Sunday—but she will never tell sister so and so that I said that. She may have actually “been there and done that before and know how I feel.”
I love these women! They gather from all over the world to participate in the 21st century version of sharing a cup of tea (sweet, of course—with a slice of lemon) on the front porch swing.
Sit a spell and listen in:
-
Hey! Thought I would start a small talk thread. I am struggling with a cold today!
-
This weekend my son asked Jesus to live in his heart! We've been praying for 5 years for him to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
-
That is awesome! Praise the Lord. I continue to pray for my three littlest ones. My husband loved baptizing our oldest!
-
Wow, what great news! We are praying for our grandchildren to come to Christ at an early age.
-
I hope your cold goes away soon. It's not easy working on a computer with a runny nose.
Small Talk and Deep Places
And that was in a category called “small talk.” Of course there are other areas of the community where we wade together in the deep and desperate places of church conflict and husband’s terminations. We also walk hand in hand down the trail of tears kept wet with rebellious children, aging parents and unexpected illness. And, we share great ideas like why you should never purchase a water bed.
I asked some of my porch swing companions to share why they like to sit with me and this is what they said:
-
I am a young minister's wife in need of mentoring and friendship. The Online Community has given me both. This place has given me a chance to voice opinions, ask questions, vent, encourage others and talk about the day without worrying if I am confiding in the wrong person.
-
I too am a youth minister's wife and the Online Community has helped me so much! I am unable to participate in a "live" Bible study because of conflicting schedules so the online study has helped me so much. It has refreshed me to know that I am not alone in ministry life. I can come here and share ideas freely and know that they will be lifted up in prayer.
-
Ditto that. I live in a small town and my husband is a pastor of a small church. Having other pastors’ wives to talk with, bounce ideas off, and share frustrations that are common to ministers’ wives has been so great!
-
I've been lonely and it’s great to know that I can come to this mostly secluded place on the Internet and feel safe to talk about things that sometimes only other ministers’ wives would understand.
Convinced? Join the ministers’ wives community. I hope to see you there. We’ll keep the tea sweet for you! To join visit Ministers' Wives.
Leighann McCoy has been married to her pastor-husband, Tom for 19 years. During that time she's learned enough to whisper the "Secret Confessions of a Minister’s Wife" which she did for Journey magazine last year. Today Leighann writes books (on prayer of course! How else can we survive?), she taxi's her 10, 12 and 13 year old "minister’s kids" to and from school and extra-curricular activities, and she travels all around telling other people how fun(ny) it is to be .... a ministers' wife!
