Have You Heard? Petra Farewell, Wes King Tribute

Written by Mike and Paula Parker

October 4, 2005--There's always a lot going on in the world of Christian Entertainment. Here are some tidbits that came across our desk recently…

It's a Girl! The Afters' lead singer Josh Havens and his wife, Cara, announce the arrival of Adeline Sara Havens on September 15th. Baby Adeline weighed 8 lbs. 6 oz. and was 21 in. long. She is welcomed by big brother Ethan.

It's a Boy! Imperials bass singer Ian Owens and his wife, Megan, announce the birth of their first child — Liam Adam Owens. Baby Liam Adam was born September 27, 2005, at 4:35 p.m. Liam weighed seven pounds, 14 ounces and was 20 and a half inches long.

Award-winning singer/songwriter Russ Lee will be arriving in Okinawa early next week for a series of concerts and ministry opportunities at U.S. military bases, churches, and schools. During his two-week stay, Lee is scheduled to perform a concert for U.S. Marines and other personnel stationed at Camp Hansen. He also will travel to Kadena Air Force Base, where he will minister in concert, as well as during two chapel services. Lee's trip to Okinawa stems from his on-going commitment to minister to U.S. soldiers stationed abroad. In 2003 and 2004, Lee traveled to Iraq where he performed concerts, led Bible studies, and personally interacted with troops.

Atlanta-based Casting Crowns was featured in Rolling Stone this week. The seven-piece youth ministry band continues to impress critics and win hearts of millions of fans, as this week its Lifesong album again has the No.1 position on Soundscan's Top Christian album chart. Rolling Stone highlights the band's chart position and mentions both their record-breaking debut and the astronomic sales of Lifesong in its Top 40 Albums list in the September 26 issue.

To celebrate 33 years of music and ministry from the pioneering Christian rock band Petra, Inpop Records will release Petra Farewell on Nov. 22. Performed before a live audience, Petra Farewell will feature Petra classics, emerging worship favorites, and guest appearances by former band members. The band, which has impacted generations of musicians and fans alike over the years with seven million CDs sold, four Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards, and an induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, will tour extensively this fall before disbanding at the year's end. The live recording of the farewell concert is set for Oct. 4 at the W in Franklin, Tennessee. The show will be taped for a later DVD release.

Life is Precious: A Wes King Tribute is due to hit the shelves December 26. Best known for his #1 hit single The Robe and the lyrics for Michael W. Smith's This is Your Time, singer/songwriter Wes King is currently battling cancer in the form of lymphoma and is undergoing extensive chemotherapy. The tribute CD will feature some of today's most popular artists performing their favorite Wes King songs, including Phil Keaggy, downhere, Kim Hill, Addison Road, Scott Krippayne, and The Kry. All of the proceeds from the sale of this CD will go directly to Wes and his family.
