Ministry Assistant: An Amazing Profession

Do you realize what a truly amazing profession yours is? Really. Amazing? Maybe you're thinking this isn't a word generally used to describe the work of the church secretary. It should be.

With a bit of private brainstorming you can name innumerable reasons why this is such a rewarding profession and one to be incredibly proud of: Your work has significance. You help spread the ultimate message. You do good deeds. You make the world a better place. You care more for people than programs, projects, or profits. And on and on.

How about this incredible plus? Regardless of how long you serve, how many  ministries you perform and assist, how innovative and smart and dedicated you become, there will always be new skills to master, more seeds to sow.

Challenge yourself to make your job more than you ever thought it could be. Think big about the opportunities it offers to minister, to set an example of excellence, to strengthen your own interpersonal and technical skills, and to be generous with encouragement and compliments.

Collect experiences. Something can be learned from every encounter in the church office, good and not so good. Allow the knowledge you gain to guide you in making wiser decisions.

Develop the habit of making extraordinary actions your standard operating procedure. See what needs to be done and do it without being asked, send an article or note to someone just because you think it might be enjoyed, routinely do more than what is anticipated. There is astonishing satisfaction in doing the unexpected.

Then, don't be too surprised if your extra actions inspire others to do unexpected kindnesses of their own.

That's just how it works.

Amazing!
