How to Involve Sunday School Members in Evangelism Training

Most adult class members are scared to share their faith with others. Still others don't have a burden for the lost because they have lost sight of the mission of the class and church - they have forgotten that they are to have a role in reaching the lost. How do we develop class members, who are soul winners? The teacher, the ministry coordinator, or the visitation/evangelism coordinator should guide to class to do the following:

 

Teach adults how to share their testimony. Provide a simple outline for sharing a testimony and ask members to write it out on a sheet of paper. Use the following outline as a guide:

• What my life was like before I heard about Jesus.
• How I became aware of my need for Christ.
• How I received Christ as my Savior.
• How Christ helps me every day.
• How Sunday School has helped me grow as a Christian.

Regularly include opportunities for class members to share their testimonies during the class session. This will enable them to practice sharing their faith in a neutral environment. If lost people are in attendance they will be able to hear about how God has changed someone’s life.

During every session, ask members to share witnessing opportunities they have had during the previous week. If the class has a team(s) that participates in FAITH Evangelism encourage weekly testimonies to be shared regarding visits the team(s) made.

Distribute gospel tracts and demonstrate ways to share the gospel using the tract.

Purchase small pocket New Testaments for each class member and encourage them to mark the New Testament for sharing the gospel. Challenge them to keep the pocket New Testament with them during the week at work and other places they go. Use the following guide to mark the New Testament:

1. All people sin, Romans 3:23
2. Sin has a price, Romans 6:23
3. God loves all people and sent His Son to pay the price of sin for all people, Romans 5:8
4. Repent of sins and turn to God, Acts 3:19
5. Confess and believe, Romans 10:9-10
6. Call on the Lord and be saved, Romans 10:13

Provide or involve adults in ongoing evangelism training. Consider using the following:
