Thanksgiving Travel Tips

Written by Becca Cipriani

If your family is traveling for Thanksgiving this year, try these tips for a smoother, less chaotic trip:

  1. Take care of car concerns (scraping noises, flames from exhaust pipe, etc.) before you hit the road. And have the car’s fluids and tire pressure checked.
  2. Do not return on Sunday. Repeat, do not drive on Sunday. It is the worst, most traffic-heavy day of the year. Try leaving Saturday or staying through Monday.
  3. Take games. Better yet, if your vehicle or laptop has a DVD player, take movies. There’s no shame in a quiet, fight-free ride.
  4. Pack low-sugar snacks and drinks. Travelers don’t need a sugar rush in cramped quarters.
  5. Check expectations. Maybe Junior thought he and Sis would switch seats halfway, or your teenager thought he was going to drive part of the way. Express expectations and snuff out mid-trip explosions before they ignite.
