LifeWay's Guidelines for Developing Bible Curriculum
LifeWay Christian School Resources’ Quest Bible Series for Christian schools was created to meet the criteria established by these guidelines. Developed with the purpose and core values that we believe are essential for preparing students for the future, this Bible series provides an effective curriculum that is relevant to today’s students.
Purpose: The Bible curriculum is designed to assist teachers in enabling each student to know and accept Christ as Savior and serve Him from a biblical worldview.
Core Value #1:
"The Bible curriculum reflects a carefully developed scope and sequence." Deuteronomy 6:7-9; Isaiah 28:9-10; 2 Timothy 3:14-15
-
The design of the scope and sequence takes into consideration the maturity level of the students at various grade levels.
Core Value #2:
"Strategies for teaching the Bible are educationally sound." Proverbs 2:1-6; Hebrews 5:14b
- Strategies are developed that integrate the Bible with other subject areas.
- Strategies are developed that ensure the instruction goes beyond the mere cognitive domain.
Core Value #3:
"Strategies for teaching the Bible are appropriate to the age and maturity level of the students." Judges 13:8; Psalm 78:5-7; Proverbs 4:1-4; Proverbs 22:6
- Bible instruction relates to where each student is developmentally — this includes the cognitive, affective, and volitional domains.
- Varied teaching techniques are used to ensure that all students are impacted by God’s Word.
- Bible instruction focuses on certain goals for certain grade levels.
- Preschoolers learn that Jesus is a person who loves them.
- Children learn of their need to accept Jesus as their Savior.
- Youth are challenged to follow Jesus in everyday life.
- Adults are led to commit themselves to serving Jesus and thus reach their full spiritual potential.
Core Value #4:
"The Bible curriculum provides the student with the opportunity to be personally and actively engaged in the study of the Bible." Psalm 19:7-9; Psalm 119:97-99, 105; 2 Timothy 2:15
- Students will have opportunity to experience how God’s Holy Spirit transforms a life through the study of His Word.
- Students will know the flow of God’s unfolding plan for redemption throughout the Scriptures.
- Students will be engaged with each other in studying biblical truth.
Core Value #5:
"Through practical application, students will be encouraged to develop and embrace a biblical worldview." Psalm 119:9-16; Proverbs 3:5-7; 2 Timothy 3:16-17
- The Bible curriculum is related to real-life experiences.
- The Bible instruction will move students from "memorizing" truth to "doing" truth in everyday life.
- Instructional strategies allow for and encourage spiritual transformation to occur in the student’s life versus human effort to try and change one’s life.
