Encourage Sunday School Leaders to Worship
As a Sunday School leader, you are in a prime position to help persons learn about the value of worship and the joy and delight of worshiping God individually and publicly.
Worship is our primary responsibility to God. We worship God individually and as a corporate body with actions that express our love and adoration for Him. Worship should be from a heart filled with joy, responding to God's love. It should not be done from a sense of duty. The activities of a public worship service, praising, singing and praying, should be reflections of the individual's daily worship of God.
Encourage Personal Worship
A necessary prelude to corporate worship is personal worship. However, many do not take the time to worship on a personal level. Most people are of the opinion that worship is an area of ministry that requires a pastor and that is his job.
We must encourage church members to spend time before services, preparing their hearts and minds for worship. We can express our adoration and love for God in many ways. Remind members that God wants us to worship Him. Time with God should involve Bible study, prayer, and other forms of worship.
-
Encourage your members to read and study the Bible for themselves. Recommend printed materials, guides and/or devotions that can help them develop self-discipline and continuity in their study time.
-
Encourage them to memorize Scripture.
-
Encourage use of music in daily quiet time. Music is a good expression that delights God, and it can help them worship at all times of the day.
Encourage Public Worship
Some may ask, “Why do we need to go to church if God can hear us wherever we are?” Some may even be in the habit of attending only Sunday School, believing that their commitment to attend church has been fulfilled. There is a good, biblical reason for us coming to church to worship. In Hebrews 10:24-25 Paul says, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
As a Sunday School leader, encourage worship attendance. Worship with other believers is crucial to spiritual growth. No one can stand alone for long. In worship we experience community, which holds us accountable and helps in maintaining our focus on God.
We live in era when noise from the telephone, radio, television, the Internet, and traffic fills our lives. To focus our minds we must take time to commune with God each day in solitude. On a personal level, we must steal away from the world to a private spot to be with God, then join with others for a time of corporate worship. God will be glorified and our hearts will be blessed and filled with joy. Worship has a way of bringing stillness to a chaotic world.
